the first (pre-)step of our home study was filling out the 20+ page document for the home study provider to get to know us. it included a lot of basic info along with some fun questions about our marriage, upbringing, goals & personal strengths/weaknesses. we each also had to write a 2-4 page autobiography.

we did so, separately and shared after wards. really, we know all of this about one another, but it’s still fun to resurface memories and get to know each other’s pasts. here are excerpts about or parents influences:

“Overall I think my parents are the two biggest influences on my life. They raised me to make decisions for myself encouraging me to be informed and make sound decisions. They instilled a sense of curiosity and adventure into me that has led me to some interesting places, meeting amazing people and to appreciate the scale of our planet and what it has to offer. Our vacation trips always seemed to include some educational aspect to it, have it be a visit to a historic shipping yard in Connecticut or a science lesson in a cave in southern Indiana, there was always something new to learn and see. Granted as a 10 year old kid I wasn’t always thrilled about these moments, but now later in life I’m happy to have had the experience and chalk it up to one more thing to know.”

    abbey’s…
“(just finished talking about their lifestyle and hardships building businesses…) The flexibility of their lives, their self-motivation and the hard-working lifestyle of growing up on a farm has giving me the tools, inspiration & motivation to build my own business.

I hope to share these traits with my children, while also teaching them that a balance is necessary for a fulfilling life. A balance of non-distracted, focused time with family/friends and time with a career that give you passion for what you do and how you contribute to society. I believe this balance is what creates a truly happy and connected family.”
