We wrote in our vows, “I choose you, above all others to be my partner in love and my best-friend in life. I want to love you for yourself to cherish and encourage your own fulfillment as an individual throughout all the seasons of life”
I believe this sense of individual growth and fulfillment is what has giving us such a wonderfully strong and understanding marriage. We both realize that we may have different opinions or goals in certain matters and we are accepting of each other, creating little conflict and open communication.
The vows go on to say, “… I choose you, to care and console, to inspire and respond, loving you now and forever. I will cherish our union and love you more each day than I did the day before.”
Along with our individual understanding, we uphold a highly supportive regard for each other and our goals, always helping each other find inspiration and motivation for life and work and always working together to attain our common goals and interests.
I believe as parents we will work diligently to instill these same values with our children. We hope to learn about & travel to the DRC more as we grow together as a family. We both find it exciting to help our children realize their own values and find a sense of pride in who they are as a person and what their history is from their culture. We plan to support our children’s decisions on how involved they wish to be in the African culture and the issues of the DRC, and support what their heritage means to them as an individual. Whatever they decide is important for them, we mainly hope that they will have an open mind to all cultures and people, along with a loving and supportive value for close relationships with family and friends.
